Energy Assistance

Direct Client Services offers limited assistance with electric and natural gas bills enabling households to become self sufficient. Assistance is available under several programs to address different energy needs (contingent on the availability of funds). The household must reside in Bexar County and have income within 125% of the Poverty Income Guideline set by the Federal Government.

Assistance is provided to low-income households that meet one of the following Priority Groups:
Elderly (60 years or older)
Disabled (unable to engage in substantial employment for a period of 12 months or longer)
Families with children 5 years of age or younger

Bexar County networks with CPS Energy for payment arrangements, energy conservation, and home energy audits. All households receive referrals to the Alamo Area Council of Governments for weatherization services.

Applicants may call for an appointment on Tuesdays after 9:00 a.m. A limited number of appointments are given each week. Applicants must give the social security number of the head of household, a telephone number and the utility bill account number. Please call (210) 335-6770 for an appointment. More conservation information can be obtained from the
US Department of Energy, Texas State Energy Conservation Office, Alliance to Save Energy and Home Energy Saver websites. Children are encouraged to visit the Alliance to Save Energy website to learn energy conservation in a fun, enteractive atmosphere.
