The Constitution of 1845 provided for a separate officer appointed by the County Board but in 1850 the office of County Treasurer was made an election office with a term of 2 years.

* Office of County Treasurer was abolished by virtue of a Constitutional Amendment on November 6, 1984 that was favored 66,119 votes to 16,096. The responsibilities were transferred to the County Clerk's Office.
