Walker retired as an Educator in 2002 from the San Antonio area public schools after 26 years. He taught all-levels in NEISD, Edgewood, Southwest, Harlandale, SAISD, Medina Valley & Southside ISD to include elementary & secondary.
His experience includes teaching: English, Journalism, Reading, Social Studies, Special Education, Adult Education, GED at Bexar County Detention Center & six semesters as an Adjunct Instructor at Wayland Baptist University, supervising Student teachers working on their Master's Degree.
He holds a B.A. in Speech, Drama, English, from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth where he was voted Most Likely to Succeed as "Mr. T.W.C." in 1969. He earned his M.A. in Education from the University of the Incarnate Word in 1975.
His 30-years in the Army Reserves includes: a tour in Viet Nam, (70-71) & Desert Storm for six months @ the Pentagon in the Army Newspaper Branch where he was assigned for 12 years.
Walker is an Army-trained Broadcast, Photo, Print Journalist, (77) & he finished his Army Reserve career as a Master Sergeant. (E-8)
With 8-years as a Balcones Heights Councilman (97-07) (2 breaks) he also served as the President of the San Antonio Junior Chamber of Commerce from 1981-82. During his tenure as JCC president, the San Antonio chapter hosted the National JCC Convention with President Ronald Reagan as keynote speaker.
In 1982 he worked as a KENS-5 Reporter & other affiliates around the state.
In 1979 Walker worked as an Express-News Reporter on the weekly segment of the paper. From 1999-2002 he served as the President of the Harlandale ISD Federation of Teachers. (AFL-CIO)
He is currently the Publisher/Editor of the highly popular Walker Report Photo Blog which was voted by SA Current Magazine as 2nd best blogger in SA in 2007.
Walker is an active member of the Northwest Church of Christ, & divorced with four grand children: 14, 12, 10, and 8.
A world traveler, the former councilman backpacked 26 countries and also participated in two missionary trips to Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica.
Walker is the oldest of six boys, attending 5th-8th grade @ St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Balcones Heights from 1956-1960. |
