ABOUT THE BEXAR COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR-COLLECTOR
The BEXAR COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR-COLLECTOR is a constitutional officer mandated by the Texas constitution, elected by and directly responsible to the people. The Constitution of the State of Texas of 1845 originally set up an elective office of Assessor and Collector of Taxes. Many changes have taken place in the last 165 years, leading to the current responsibilities of County Tax Assessor-Collectors. Assessor-Collectors are elected to four year terms and are one of only two constitutionally mandated county-wide elected positions.
The Office of the Tax Assessor-Collector provides services for Property Tax Collections, Beer and Wine Permits, Motor Vehicle Registration, and Titling functions.
The Bexar County Tax Office collects ad valorem property taxes for Bexar County, the Flood Control Fund, and 49 other taxing entities. This includes 21 municipalities, 11 school districts, and 17 special districts. In 2009, the Bexar County Tax Office issued license plates/stickers for over 1.3 million vehicles, processed 366,485 title transfers, issued 30,349 handicap placards, and issued 3,739 beer & wine permits. Over two billion dollars in Bexar County property taxes was collected and disbursed.
The Tax Assessor-Collector's office has established associations with several private sector businesses to provide motor vehicle and titling services to the public. By extending these services through the private sector, there is greater accessibility and facilitation of the process.
All HEB grocery chains process current motor vehicle registration renewals at a minimal cost to their customers. It is important to note that HEB is unable to renew an expired registration. In the event of an expired registration, it will be necessary to visit one of the four Bexar County Tax Office locations.
Current renewals can also be made at the following locations:

|405 S. Seguin||8001 Shin Oak Drive|
|Converse, TX 78109||Live Oak, TX 78233|

In cooperation with 20 titling service companies throughout Bexar County, you may also title or register your vehicle at any one of their locations. Please note that there is a fee for their services.
Through a contract with Collector Solutions, property tax payments can be charged to a credit card over the telephone or via the internet. There is a convenience charge of 2.15 percent added by the company to cover their processing costs. Transactions $100 or less will charged a flat fee of $1.00 per transaction. If you wish to take advantage of the convenience of paying your taxes online, but wish to avoid the credit card fee, the Tax Office also offers the option of paying online by e-check, for which there is no charge.
